Laval police are asking for help in finding a suspect who shot a man who was sitting in a car behind a gas station.

Laval police received a call around 1:30 p.m. Sunday reporting that a driver who was sitting at a gas station near the intersection of King and Main streets was struck by a bullet.

They began shooting after officers noticed the man slumped over the passenger side of a vehicle, but he was found later with a single gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Police said they recovered a.22 caliber bullet casings, as well as a loaded gun from the crime scene, in the vehicle, and officers found the suspect lying in a gas station parking lot in the parking lot of Laval Gas and Electric.

Police have identified the suspect as 43-year-old Thomas Richard Coad, of Quebec City. He was arrested with the help of two police officers.

He was released on a promise to appear in court on Oct. 1, 2017.
